Background History: Kate was born to Quinn and Arthur Reinwald in Manhattan, New York. When Kate was three, both of her parents were injured in a bad taxi crash, leaving Kate homeless, an orphan. She was soon adopted by Elisabeth and Steven Schmidt, doctors from a very long family line of doctors. Kate had the dark hair of a Schmidt and the big, brown eyes of Elisabeth, so nobody ever questioned that she was truly family. They were, after all, the only family she could ever remember.

Considering her family, Kate was expected to be at the top of her class. This proved wrong when she started the primary grades. Although she could read and write very well, her memory skills were never very strong. She got distracted easily, and this made her a lousy student. Her parents did not approve, so this could easily lead to many fights with that. Kate never took an interest in soccer, one of the more popular sports her peers played, so she never made too many friends. She was a ballerina, and a good one. But nobody really cared. Kate was a spitfire, even though she was shy she wasn't the kindest person to be around, another reason why she wasn't ever one of the popular girls.

From forever, Kate was very close to her older brother, Tom. He was only two years older but acted like a second father to her. He always took care of her and defended her in front of her parents. He, of course, was smart and always took time to help Kate. He was her best friend and the only person Kate could trust for the longest of times.

In middle school, things turned nasty for Kate. Despite being very pretty, she was always flat-chested and short, not something the boys she knew wanted to look at. Kate was only shunned more, not to mention she ate alone during most of the lunches. Teachers didn't like her, and by the time she was thirteen, her spitfire personality had disappeared. It was replaced with a shy girl who didn't stand up for herself and only listened to the whispers behind books while switching classes. None of it was ever very true, but Kate didn't care. She never had to eat lunch alone again - because she never ate it. She spent her lunch hours in the bathroom, purging up the little food she caved in to eating.

A year later, her brother Tom found out. It was nearly too late, but he managed to stop her from using her razor for other purposes than shaving her underarms. He got her the help she needed, and she was alright again - for a while. Her family helped her through it, and she was able to get back on her feet again.

High school was a completely different kind of torture, but Kate was able to find comfort in the fact that there were enough people to at least sit with her at lunch - and that was really all she needed. In her senior year, Kate had been in a small coffee shop when a familiar boy approached her. She couldn't remember where she remembered him from at first, but she did eventually. He had been her brother's age, and they hadn't gotten along. Despite that, he was nice to her, and throughout that one conversation she developed a liking for him. They dated for a few months before Tom found out, and her family wasn't the least bit happy with her. They scared him away, and he never came back.

She got into a huge fight with her family and ran away, not going to school and spending her nights on the streets. Kate had lost all sense of living and just needed to stop the pain. She snuck into clubs underage with her overage "friends" who exposed her to cigarettes and alcohol. Some nights she'd just drink the pain away, passing out for hours at a time. One time, she took it too far and never bothered waking up from her pain free slumber.

Other: Misses her brother more than anything and wants to go back.
