Her family lived a normal life, her mother being a stay-at-home mom and father a lawyer. Caroline was their only child. They were middle class, nothing too special. When Caroline was eight, she caught a virus and vomited a lot for nearly a whole week. When that became longer than the doctor thought it should have lasted, they sent her to a hospital to test her for something. Her white blood cell count was very low, and the doctors diagnosed her with leukemia. Caroline had a tutor but was rarely able to concentrate. She loved to read, and always read in her bed.
